SUMMARY:An afternoon of Diversity in STEM
DESCRIPTION:If you’re an advocate for equity in STEM\, or a senior leader looking at ways to advance the diversity agenda of your organisation\, gain new insights at the Diversity in STEM afternoon on 4 September at Aotea Centre\, Auckland. \nChaired by Diversity Works CEO Maretha Smit\, the Diversity in STEM session includes talks from leaders in different aspects of diversity\, and a panel discussion to discuss the ways organisations and individuals can improve diversity and equity in STEM (as well as the activities that might not work so well). \nMartyn Loukes BEM\, a UK-based change consultant and LGBT campaigner\, will talk about mainstreaming LGBT+\, including the internationally lauded Transport for London project to raise public awareness on London’s transport system; Genevieve Doube\, Pou Whakawhanake at Beca\, will speak about Māori  inclusion and indigenous engagement; Denise Carter-Bennett from Datacom will give insight into neurodiversity at work; and representatives from the New Zealand Defence Force will share insights into increasing gender diversity in a traditionally male sector. \nThe Diversity in STEM afternoon is part of the ICWES19 (the 19th International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists) event\, hosted by AWIS and Engineering New Zealand.
