2026 starts here: building Tech New Zealand together

Welcome to the first edition of our newsletter for 2026 and the start of what we’re building together as Tech New Zealand.

In December, we shared the news of our refreshed identity bringing NZTech and the Tech Alliance together as one unified voice. Tech New Zealand gives us a clearer way to talk about who we are and what we do as a connected network of 16 Communities, working together as Aotearoa’s united voice for technology.

As we step into 2026, our Communities will keep doing what they do best day-to-day. What’s changed is our ability to show how individual strengths add up to collective progress and to better spotlight the incredible mahi happening across our ecosystem.

This year, we’re focused on strengthening connections across our communities, lifting member stories and impact, and advocating with even greater clarity for a thriving, inclusive tech ecosystem that delivers for Aotearoa. We’ll do this by bringing people together more often throughout a full calendar of community-led events that connect ideas to action. Next month we’re hosting four major annual conferences including BioTechNZ’s Life Sciences Summit, FinTechNZ Hui Taumata, Digitising Government and the National Cyber Security Summit. Later this year, Techweek, AI in Creative Industries Summit, the Digital Trust Hui Taumata and ShadowTech return. Plus, pre-sale tickets are now available for the Aotearoa AI Summit! Also, register your interest for CryptoWinter26.

Alongside this, we’ll continue to advocate for our communities and what matters most.

Life Sciences Summit: early bird ends 11 February

Bring your team into the room with the people shaping Aotearoa’s life sciences future: from biotech and medtech founders to researchers, investors, industry leaders and government. Our Life Sciences Summit brings the sector together to spark partnerships and tackle the biggest opportunities and barriers to growth.

Shaping the future of finance

Join us for our FinTechNZ  Hui Taumata, 11-12 March in Wellington. On the main stage: agentic commerce (how AI is rewriting the rules of finance), reflections on open finance and open data, and a keynote on what’s slowing the digital asset revolution and how we can modernise frameworks while protecting consumers.

Our choice of masterclasses includes digital assets and tokenisation, modernising payments, traditional finance and web3, scaling fintechs, from identity to infrastructure and AI as a total neural enterprise.
